Online Gambling is a large and growing industry. It encompasses all forms of gambling that take place over the Internet, including online casino games and sports betting. While it can be fun and exciting to play these games, it is important to do your research before making a deposit. You should look for an online casino that is licensed, has secure payment methods and offers good customer service.
The aim of this article is to review the literature concerning the relationship between risk and protective factors and online gambling behaviour. The selected articles were peer-reviewed and published between 2010 and 2020.
The articles chosen for this review met the following criteria: population (P), intervention comparison outcome (C) and research design. Risk and protective factors at the individual level as well as contextual variables have been investigated but only in a limited number of studies. For example, the university context has been linked to higher rates of online gambling among students but also with problem gambling (Mihaylova et al., 2013).
The most obvious advantage of online gambling is the convenience it provides. Players can gamble anytime and anywhere as long as they have access to the Internet. This eliminates the need to travel, follow a dress code and deal with crowds, which can often be a source of stress for some people. In addition, online gambling can be played on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones and is accessible to a wider audience than traditional casinos. It is also available to those without Internet access through the e-Games cafes established by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
